Artwork and Photographs

It's about the middle of Summer for us, and it is easy to not study, not do anything for yourself, but remember, everything you read, each time you take a few minutes to build your mind is worth it. If you have kids, read a book to them, or have them read a book to you!

Look at the LiveBinders page under Reading/Writing and the tab "Stories, not just for kids".  There is a collection of storybooks to read for kids, but they are fun, and if you are on a computer, it is a good way to teach your kids some Computer Literacy!

I've added a new link for Math Games for Kids! under the tab "Math". This is another PBS page that has a fun set of games for kids. Remember to keep their minds working the same as you are doing with your own mind!

To get to the LiveBinders page, you can either click this link, or go to the Home page, and the link is on the left side of the page. Remember the access code is Deadrick203

An Idea for Next Summer.

Some people may think that in Odessa there is nothing to do, and I agree, that is why we had to look for affordable options for weekends. my husband and I don´t like to spend our weekends at home, so we are always looking for something to do in the surrounding areas. We have found some beautiful lakes around Odessa that we love to go to every weekend like Balmorea Lake State Park or Imperal Reservoir, but for those who don´t mind to drive a little farther Rio Frio by Concan, Texas, Is an Excellent Option. It is also a State Park where you can go Camping or even you can rent a cabin. hiking, camping and fishing are some of the things you can do, so keep it in mind for next summer.

picture was taken with an Iphone 6. in "Rio Frio", Concan, Texas.

First Time Mom

As a mother of two I know how scary it can be when baby is crying and you don’t know why. As time goes on you will get the hang of it and the stress and fear you feel now will be a piece of cake later, don’t worry! It’s okay to cry if you feel overwhelmed or stressed, it’s part of parenthood. I promise it will get better. Enjoy your babies while they are young because time goes by so fast and by the time you know it you won’t even remember when you were stressing and feeling overwhelmed and your babies will be all grown up.

Teotihuacan--The Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico D.F.

It is an archeological site, called "The City of Gods" a Sacred and Antique city were the Teotihuacan’s lived many years ago. It is located in Mexico D.F. I had the opportunity to visit this fantastic place 2 years ago, when I went with my sister and her family. We were surprised to see those wonderful construction; the structure is impressive and the Monumental creations are related to religious concepts.

In the picture in the bottom you could see the largest building in Teotihuacan; “The Pyramid of the Sun", one of the largest in Mesoamerica. It has 364 steps representing the days of the lunar calendar. When you can get to the top you will find a piece of metal in the center of the monument; and it is said that you have to touch it as a tradition to seize energy. Sitting on the top of the Pyramid of Sun offers the best views of the valley. You can also enjoy others monuments as The Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Pyramid of the Moon, the Avenue of The Dead, and other attractions. Teotihuacan was designated World Heritage Site.
It was a pleasure to be in that fantastic place.

           The Alamo
It's crazy to go to a place where history took place. The Alamo in San Antonio TX .Where the battle of the Alamo(Feb 23-Mar 6;1836)happend. To be able to go there where we know people died during war ,fighting for lives is a terrible feeling. It's has changed so much now it's such a beautiful place .If you go inside the Alamo you can see carvings on the walls that people left long ago .They even have a little hospital inside where the people can go if they were hurt, and it's not even a hospital it's a little room .They fought such a big battle and my little family and I got to go on March 7,2016  and got to see the reenactment,it was pretty neat, such a big story behind such little building

Walkway in cemetery, Bristol, England- By Marie Covert

The walkway through the cemetery in Bristol is a very quiet and solitary spot in the late evening. We enjoyed taking time to look at the headstones, some dating back to the early 1600s.
This picture was taken around 10 pm. Yes, the light is still very good for being that late in the evening. I was amazed by that fact, but the reason is pretty simple. England is about the same latitude as Alaska. Bristol is not too far off the same latitude as Anchorage. So Sunlight abounds in the Summer months.

Inside the Cathedral at Carlisle, England, What is amazing is the height as well as the changes that have been made over the years... and the large cracks in the rock walls... I wondered how stable the whole building is, considering this area has earthquakes quite frequently.
The building was started 1122 as an Augustinian church and became a Cathedral in 1133... it was refurbished a few times over the centuries, especially after the Scottish Presbyterian Army took rock from the church to reinforce the castle at Carlisle in the mid-1600s. The stonework was replaced in the mid-1800s by British architect Ewan Christian (1814–95).

Train Station in Carlisle, England, train arrival on time!  Picture by Marie Covert
I love the train station, it seems to bring promise of something different. You catch a train and have an adventure! Even if it is just visiting friends, loved ones... going on holiday, every trip can become adventuresome if you use your imagination.
Someday, I hope to take trains across Europe to see where I end up, and what new things I see along the way. That would be an adventure!

Post Box at Dalston, England.

This picture of a post box is so poignant...The British post boxes are quickly going the way of our own here in the USA. This one is out in the middle of nowhere, yet it is still a great communication tool.
Writing has become a lost art... when was the last time you wrote someone a letter? When was the last time you received one?
Writing a letter to anyone will lift their spirits as well as your own.
